This is a very ornate Rococo style turn latch that can be used with lock turnbolt mechanisms, or on some twist-style exterior mechanical doorbell operators.
This turn operator was originally made by Sargent, Circa 1900. The Sargent company used this with just about everything because of its universal likeability for every available application. That's why we offer it in five finishes, to blend with every décor.

The twist handle projects by 1 3⁄8".

Steel Shaft: 3⁄16" square. The standard shaft length of 2 ¼" accommodates doors up to 1 ¾" thick
